Steep family garden
This typical small Brighton garden climbs steeply from the back door of the house to a huge retaining wall at the back, creating a difficult space for the family to use.
We maximised the function of their small, steep garden whilst ensuring it was safe for their young children by using hard landscaping to create separate zones in the space. Metal steps and gravel terraces were replaced with a bespoke timber staircase and balustrade leading to an Oak decked terrace where they could enjoy their morning coffee.
New porcelain steps lead up to the top terrace where we created a lawn area for the children to play and next to this we built a paved terrace for outdoor dining and entertaining. The final element to the garden was creating a raised planter against the tall retaining wall at the back of the garden which could be used as a seating area.
The planting was used to define areas and soften some of the hard landscaping, creating a beautiful family garden.
